One of Bristol, England's most elegant districts, Melville Heights is home to wealthy professors, physicians, and attorneys. People aren't horribly killed in their own kitchens in this kind of environment. However, it's the kind of environment where secrets are shared by everybody. And you have everyone's attention.

Tom Fitzwilliam is the headmaster who is credited with turning around the local school. He is well-liked by everyone, especially Joey Mullen, his new neighbour, who falls deeply in love with this utterly lovely but unattainable guy. Joey believes her infatuation is hidden, but Freddie, Tom's adolescent son, is a people-watching whiz who dreams of becoming as an MI5 agent. He's seen Joey acting suspiciously around his father.

Jenna Tripp, one of Tom's pupils, doesn't think her instructor is as perfect as he looks, even if they both reside on the same neighbourhood. For starters, he seems especially fond of her closest friend and fellow student, and Jenna's mother, whose mental state has undoubtedly been declining lately, believes Mr. Fitzwilliam is after her.

Meanwhile, a teenager chronicles her tragic fascination with a dashing young English teacher called Mr. Fitzwilliam in her journal twenty years previously.
