What the River Knows

Bolivian-Argentine Like the rest of the world, Inez Olivera is a member of the glittering upper society of nineteenth-century Buenos Aires, a town steeped in old world enchantment that has mostly been forgotten or left behind. With the exception of her parents' frequent departures from home, Inez has everything a girl could ever desire.

Inez inherits their enormous inheritance and a strange guardian—an archaeologist working with his Egyptian brother-in-law—when she learns of their untimely deaths. In search of answers, Inez sets out for Cairo with her sketchbooks and an old golden ring her father sent her to keep safe before he passed away. However, the ancient power connected to the ring draws her on a journey that leads her to realize there is more to her parents' disappearance than what her guardian initially told her.

Inez has to rely on ancient magic to discover the truth about her parent's disappearance because her guardian's obnoxiously attractive assistant is constantly sabotaging her efforts. If she doesn't, she runs the possibility of becoming a piece in a bigger plot that will ultimately murder her.
